HINESVILLE, Ga. (WTOC) – A standing-room-only crowd filled the Liberty County Courthouse Annex Monday night, demanding more science and transparency before a proposed wastewater treatment plant moves forward — a plan they fear could permanently damage one of coastal Georgia’s most treasured waterways.
The Liberty County Development Authority held the public information meeting in Hinesville to present plans for a Water Reclamation Facility, or WRF, at Tradeport East. The facility would use advanced membrane bioreactor technology to treat wastewater to near-drinking water quality, supporting a massive mixed-use development that could bring nearly 3,000 new housing units to the area.
But the plan to discharge treated wastewater overflow into the Laurel View River has ignited fierce opposition. The Facebook group “Save the Laurel View River” has grown to more than 1,100 members in less than 30 days…
