Last Sister of Mercy to be CEO of St. Joseph’s Hospital passes away

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — Sister Mary Faith McKean, the last Sister of Mercy to be CEO of St. Joseph’s Hospital, passed away on Monday, July 6.

McKean was a member of the Sisters of Mercy, first in Baltimore and then in Savannah, where she became CEO of St. Joseph’s Hospital. She served in that role from 1982 to 1992.

During her tenure she was responsible for many advancements at the hospital, such as the addition of a 10-bed coronary care unit and a radiology department expansion and renovation, the first double coronary bypass surgery patient and being the first medical facility to offer laser angioplasty.

Sister Mary Faith retired as CEO of St. Joseph’s Hospital at the end of 1992. She was succeeded by St. Joseph’s/Candler’s current President & CEO Paul P. Hinchey…
