City of Savannah issues precautionary boil water advisory after water main break, Bee Road closed through weekend

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) – The City of Savannah has issued a Boil Water Advisory that is expected to expire Sunday, July 19th.

The advisory is a precautionary measure issued for residents located on Bee Road (north of 52nd Street), and more specifically, east of Bee Road inclusive of East 51st Street to Grenoble Street to East 50th Street, following the failure of a city water main under Bee Road.

The affected area is shown below.

Officials say around 5 a.m. Saturday, a 6-inch water main believed to have begun leaking at a brace point, resulting in the formation of a sinkhole. Around 6 a.m., a motorist drove through the water-covered area, causing damage to a second, 8-inch water main.

Bee Road between 50th and 52nd Streets will remain closed through the weekend while crews complete repairs…
