Savannah-Based Officiant Leads With Love

What started as a favor for friends has now become this retired businessman’s new “career.”

Written by Kathryn Drury Wagner

When dear friends of Louis Schiavone Jr. got married at an intimate backyard ceremony, he became certified so he could officiate. “I assumed that would be the end of my officiating career,” Schiavone says. But when that couple later held their larger celebration for more than 120 guests in Monterey Square, they asked him to officiate that too. Soon afterward, a few other couples asked, and before he knew it, officiating had become an important part of his life. Now he’s conducting two to three ceremonies a month, including Christian, spiritual, and non-religious services, as well as elopements, vow renewals, and civil unions.
