SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) – Mayor Van R. Johnson, II, and City Manager Jay Melder hosted Savannah at Night on Tuesday, a community engagement event at Savannah High School designed to connect residents with city leadership.
The event included a meeting from 6 to 7:15 p.m., followed by exhibits from 7:15 to 7:45 p.m. Residents heard presentations from Code Compliance on the code compliance process, Solid Waste on illegal dumping, and Management & Budget Communications on the FY027 budget survey. Additional departments, including the 311 Action Center, Community Services, Water Resources, Government Operations, Planning & Economic Development, Savannah Police and Savannah Fire/Marshal’s Office, set up exhibits to promote their services and answer questions.
City leaders emphasize accessibility
Johnson said the event gives residents who cannot attend city departments during regular business hours a chance to engage with staff directly.
“We’re a 24-hour city,” Johnson said. “And so, it’s important for our executive team, for our department heads, to be able to touch people that may not be able to come to city departments during regular normal working hours. This is an opportunity for people to be engaged in a different way at a different time.”…
