Weather Aware Monday: Heavy rain and isolated severe storms possible

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — As a robust storm system that is organizing in the central U.S., a few strong and severe storms are possible as in move through Georgia and South Carolina on Monday.

The low pressure system we are watching is located over Texas and Oklahoma, but is producing severe storms over Arkansas as of Friday evening.

As this system slowly move across the southern region, more strong and severe storms are expected. The primary risk area on Saturday is over central and southern Texas. On Sunday, the primary severe risk area will shift east and will include east Texas to western Alabama.

Weather Aware Day Monday

Severe storms will then be possible for the Coastal Empire and Lowcountry on Monday afternoon and into the evening. Our main concern with this weather maker locally will be heavy rain and strong or gusty wind at times. A few isolated storms will have potential to turn severe with damaging wind as the primary threat.

Timing for rain at this time looks that showers will begin Sunday night and into Monday Morning. Then in the afternoon and into the evening is when we will have the heaviest rain and the greatest risk for severe storms locally. The overall risk is low at this time.
