A grandmother living in South Carolina was killed in an alligator attack after her private community had vowed to protect residents from such incidents but made “no effort” to implement protection, her family said in a lawsuit. The 10-foot alligator was also found to have partially eaten the woman.
Holly Jenkins, 69, lived in the community of Spanish Wells on Hilton Head Island, where her family reportedly settled its lawsuit last week.
Jenkins’ loved ones accused those in charge of the residence of failing to keep her safe, despite public promises to look out for “risks” that they were “aware of and responsible for”. The settlement amount has been kept confidential, but according to court records, it was approved on May 5.
