Seven Women saved Savannah from demolition – new exhibit reveals the story

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — For generations, Savannah’s cobblestone streets, historic squares, and preserved architecture have drawn millions of visitors from around the world. However, city leaders and historians say Savannah’s iconic charm nearly disappeared in the 1950s – until seven determined women stepped in to stop it.

A new exhibit opening today at the Preservation Center shines a spotlight on the women whose efforts saved the historic Davenport House from demolition in 1955, sparking what would become Savannah’s modern historic preservation movement.
