A little over a month after a shooting at the Bite of Seattle killed three people, Mayor Katie Wilson says it took too long to get public safety updates out across official channels and pledged to move faster.
Wilson and interim Seattle Police Chief Andre Sayles sat down with KUOW on Tuesday to discuss improvements to communication procedures during emergencies.
Going forward, Wilson said she expects police to update the media “within one hour of a significant incident,” and the public even sooner via social media or AlertSeattle, the city’s text alert service. Some of the practices Wilson’s team briefly laid out in a two-page document on Tuesday already existed — and it’s still not entirely clear why they weren’t followed on July 26…
