After 71 years, Prosser Piano & Organ is closing; family retirement sale open now in Tacoma and Shoreline.
The Tacoma family piano business founded in 1955 will sell its remaining pianos, organs, sheet music and fixtures before the owners retire at year’s end.
TACOMA, Wash. — Oct. 30, 2026 — Prosser Piano & Organ Co., the family-owned piano store that has served Tacoma since 1955, will close for good at the end of 2026. Owners Kerry and Gail Prosser are retiring. A retirement sale of all remaining inventory runs Friday, Oct. 30, through Wednesday, Dec. 23, or sooner, at the company’s stores in Tacoma and Shoreline, 18505 Firlands Way N.
Duane and Laurie Prosser founded the business after moving to Washington from Sioux Falls, South Dakota, where they had worked together at a small piano store. They opened the first Prosser Piano store in Tacoma in 1955. Duane ran sales; Laurie kept the books and handled purchasing. Their sons grew up in the business and carried it on when their parents retired.
Kerry started young. At 17, in 1979, he was selling pianos and organs from a booth under the grandstands at the Puyallup Fair, drawing customers in by playing songs that appealed to the fair’s crowd.
“For 71 years our family has had the privilege of putting pianos into Tacoma homes, schools and churches. Some of our customers are now buying pianos for their grandchildren. Gail and I are ready to retire, but we wanted to say thank you the right way: with one last sale, and the same care we’ve always tried to give,” said Kerry Prosser.
The sale includes new and used pianos, organs, sheet music and store fixtures. Everything must go — what a great time to add music to a home at giveaway pricing, just in time for the holidays…
