To mark its 50th anniversary, Microsoft, headquartered in Redmond, Washington, has awarded grants totaling $2.5 million to 50 organizations across the Puget Sound region, The Daily of the University of Washington reports.
The surprise grants of $50,000 each were awarded through the company’s “50 for 50” campaign. As part of the anniversary celebration, Microsoft also named the University of Washington and the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center as key partners in the company’s AI for Good Lab research initiative, which aims to use AI to advance sustainability, human rights, opportunity, and trust. In 2024, Microsoft and its employees contributed $88 million to nearly 5,000 organizations across the state.
“We are continuing that tradition with community partners at the University of Washington and Fred Hutch, among others,” said Microsoft vice chair and president Brad Smith. “Working together to identify opportunities for our AI for Good Lab to leverage the power of AI and data science to create new opportunities for our community to grow together.”…
