The 52nd Seattle International Film Festival (SIFF) is back!
This year’s theme is the “SIFF Effect”, meant to encapsulate that dizzying sensation generated by the shared experience of sitting in a theater with like-minded cinephiles. It’s a feeling that only independent film can produce, and boy, are we grateful to have SIFF served to us across five venues in downtown Seattle over 10 days of curated screenings. Watching a movie in a theater? What a concept!
The festival runs now through May 17. By the numbers, SIFF has tapped 203 films from 71 countries, including 71 narrative features, 98 shorts and 34 documentary features. There are 18 films finding their World premieres at the festival, and 67% of the films do not have U.S. distribution, meaning there is plenty of opportunity to view them well before the masses…
