Caddo Parish deputies host men’s mental health and PTSD awareness event

SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) – Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies are encouraging men to take their health seriously, with a focus on mental health, stress and PTSD awareness.

Warning signs and the push to speak up

Deputy Vernita Williams, an intake specialist with the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office, said warning signs can include withdrawal from family and friends.

“Avoidance, quietness, distance, want to be alone by themselves a lot. Some of the warning signs that you can look in, you know, especially when they started avoiding. They used to be around family a lot. They love being around their family and friends. And all of a sudden, they’re avoiding family. They’re avoiding friends. They don’t want to talk about issues. They don’t want to have conversations with the family anymore,” Williams said.

Deputies said many men keep those struggles to themselves. Corporal Tim Young with the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office said the event is aimed at changing that…
