Bossier business expands certifications, offerings to address ‘shortfall in skill gap’ locally

When local data center and other construction projects were announced, Julie Farris was concerned locals might not be ready for the job opportunities they would bring.

“The talk among business partners that we work with is that we have a woefully unskilled workforce in a multitude of areas and not just construction,” said Farris, the owner of Pelican Training & Consulting in Bossier City. “What I will say is that there is a shortfall in a skill gap, and we continue to see that gap widen generationally.”

“When we began receiving phone calls about people needing immediate certification in certain areas, that’s when we said ‘This is now, it’s go time. Let’s do it. Let’s pull the trigger.’”…
