Caddo Parish sees dramatic drop in middle school truancy rates

SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – The Caddo Parish District Attorney’s Office has released the final middle school truancy numbers for the 2025-2026 school year, showing significant progress in reducing student absenteeism and juvenile probation cases.

District Attorney James E. Stewart partnered with Caddo Schools Superintendent Keith Burton and Volunteers for Youth Justice to create a new intervention strategy to address the rise in truancy cases following the pandemic. The pilot program focused on eight middle schools across the parish.
