SHREVEPORT, La. (KTBS) — Former KTBS Sports Director Ed Baswell, a familiar face to generations of ArkLaTex viewers, has died after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. He was 73.
Baswell spent two decades at KTBS, serving as sports director from 1977 to 1997. During that time, he worked alongside legendary KTBS journalists Al Pierce, Liz Swaine and Ed Duranczyk, helping shape sports coverage across the ArkLaTex.
Throughout his broadcasting career, Baswell covered countless sporting events and interviewed some of the biggest names in sports and entertainment. Among those he met were NBA legends Larry Bird and Robert Parish, as well as film icon John Wayne. His reporting took him to Super Bowls, NBA Finals and other major events across the country.
Reflecting on his career in a 2018 interview with Rick Rowe, Baswell said, “I got to do incredible things and travel and go to Super Bowls and NBA championship games.”…
