Northwest Louisiana Technical Community College Chancellor Jayda Spillers is working to AI-proof jobs. But first, she wants to get children as young as middle school to start having experiences that could later turn into careers.
A recent program called Spark Force at the Minden campus started connecting the dots. “The students explored everything from advanced manufacturing, a little electrical, a little bit of welding, instrumentation, and I love to see our female students interested. There’s no reason why they shouldn’t be and there’s no reason why they shouldn’t do it as well or better,” she said.
Spillers is looking for funding to next bring the program to the Shreveport campus, while also finding the right data center contacts with STACK Infrastructure and Amazon Web Services. AWS is spending $18 billion to build three data centers in Bossier and Caddo parishes, and STACK will develop and own the facilities. Building the centers is expected to create 2,250 construction jobs, while the facilities will create about 750 permanent, direct jobs…
