Shreveport’s 2027 Budget Targets Police And Firefighter Pay Raises While Rebuilding Financial Reserves

The budget for the city of Shreveport for next year does include pay raises for many city workers. Mayor Tom Arceneaux has submitted the budget to the City Council. This budget totals $679.9 million. The mayor says the goal is to “balance essential service delivery with fiscal responsibility, the comprehensive spending plan prioritizes municipal workforce investments while protecting the city’s financial reserves.”

Many Shreveport Workers Will Get Pay Raises

A big part of the 2027 budget package is a heavy focus on public safety and keeping city workers. This budget includes a 6% pay increase for Shreveport police officers and firefighters which will go into effect on December 1, 2026. This pay boost comes on top of the standard annual 2% scheduled increases that go into effect on January 1.

General Fund Growth and Department Allocations

The city’s General Fund is growing by nearly 2% up to $337.6 million. This pool of money supports key departments like Police, Fire, Public Works, and SPAR. The increase in this budget is going directly to pay increases for first responders.
