Shreveport mourns the loss of library director, community leader John Tuggle

Shreveport is mourning the loss of one of its community leaders.

John Tuggle passed away after a prolonged battle with pancreatic cancer.

Tuggle was the director of the Shreve Memorial Library, board chair for the United Way of Northwest Louisiana, and a member of the Rotary Club of Shreveport, as well as being a driving force in ArtBreak.

The library announced his passing on Facebook Tuesday saying, “Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and all who knew him.” Shreveport’s libraries closed Tuesday afternoon in remembrance.

The United Way of Northwest Louisiana also stated in a post, “John has left an indelible mark not only on United Way but on the lives of so many throughout our community. The knowledge and effort he has shared to enhance our education initiatives and enrich the lives of children across our region, we are forever grateful for. It is the John Tuggles of the world who truly empower change through their generosity, service, and commitment to helping others. We are thankful to have had his leadership and for the legacy he leaves with us. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, his Shreve Memorial Library family, and all who knew him.”
