Shreveport Fire gets $2.4M upgrade that could save your life

SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) — When seconds matter, the Shreveport Fire Department wants to make sure help doesn’t just arrive at your door; the hospital does too. The department is making that possible with its newest upgrade, the LifePak 35.

“The LifePak 15 and 12 required another device to transmit data to patient care reports and the hospital, with this device it’s all built in,” said Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Officer Clarke Jackson.

A $2.4 million investment from the City of Shreveport and City Council covers the LifePak 35, Power-LOAD stretchers, maintenance and all supporting systems. The device comes loaded with built-in benefits.

“Previously we had to stop CPR, in order, to analyze the heart rhythm,” Jackson said. With the Insight-CPR we can continue with hands on chest time, is what we call it, and it allows us to see what underlying rhythm and it charges the defibrillator so it cuts down on that time, which is essential to the chain of survival when it comes to CPR.”…
