A Memorial Day ceremony in Shreveport will include the unveiling of a marker for a Union Army soldier buried at Forest Park East Ceremony on St. Vincent Avenue.
Samuel R. Arbuthnot died May 30, 1920, at the age of 72, having served in the 34th and 36th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, according to historian John Prime. Arbuthnot and his family moved to Caddo, eventually settling in Belcher.
The marker, to be unveiled at 2 p.m. Monday, will be the first of its kind in the cemetery, where at least two other Union soldiers are buried, along with a number of Confederate veterans…
