DMV First Warn Day Friday due to the threat of strong to severe storms developing this afternoon and evening. Similar to yesterday, these storms will contain torrential rain, frequent lightning, but the storms today could be slightly stronger.
A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued until 9pm across most of the region. The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has placed the DC-metro area, parts of northern VA into the eastern panhandle, north-central MD, and along the I-95 corridor north towards the Baltimore-metro area, too, under a Slight Risk (2 out of 5 on the severe scale) with strong wind gusts being the main threat.
Thunderstorms will continue to bubble up, first out to the mountains region, along and west of the I-81 corridor between 2pm to 4pm, moving east across northern VA and north-central MD between 3pm – 5pm, and along the I-95 corridor from 4pm – 7pm.
