SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – A new unit at the Minnehaha County jail is housing inmates ahead of schedule, according to Sheriff Mike Milstead. Milstead said the move was an emergency step.
The original plans for Unit Control 3 here at the Minnehaha County Jail were for it to open in July, but it opened just last Friday, and Minnehaha County Sheriff Mike Milstead is once again pointing to the issue of parole.
Over a quarter of inmates at the jail are parolees. A month ago, the governor’s office announced a set of changes to the system, but the effects have yet to be seen…
