Conditions improve for today with some isolated storms possible east of I-29

(Dakota News Now) – For most of the viewing area, it will be a much quieter day, however, an isolated severe weather threat may return for southeastern portions of our viewing area late today into this evening. Large hail and damaging wind gusts will still be possible in any storms that do form in far southern and eastern parts of the viewing area.

Heading into this weekend, the heat returns with highs in the upper 80s and lower 90s. Sunday will be warmer than Saturday! At this point, the weekend is looking to stay mostly dry. We’ll monitor chances for pop up showers and storms on Sunday. The severe threat is low right now, but some marginally severe hail and strong wind gusts will be possible.

Speaking of storm chances, we’re going to continue to see more chances for showers and storms next Monday. Attention will slowly turn to the heat. Highs are going to be in the 90s for much of the region as we go into next week. We’re going to be declaring First Alert Weather Days due to the heat for the middle of next week. Tuesday will be one in Pierre and then Wednesday and Thursday for the entire area…
