SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) – The chance for showers and thunderstorms is back in the forecast for portions of KELOLAND this weekend and many of us could really use the extra moisture.
Last week’s drought monitor showed no improvements, so it was important that we tried to make some progress for the end of the month. These are a few of the totals that were taken into consideration for this week’s update. It is not much, but let’s see if it helped at least some locations out.
Unfortunately, it did not and we are heading into July with worsening drought conditions. A majority of KELOLAND is still dealing with drought and we now even have exceptional conditions occurring right across the border in northeastern Nebraska.
Around KELOLAND, we typically average about 2 to 3 inches of precipitation in July. We will see if we can reach those averages throughout the upcoming month and hopefully take some steps in the right direction with the dry conditions…
