Carrie Stephenson, Public Information Officer, Hyde County Emergency Management Office, said during a press conference held in Highmore that there were no fatalities and only some minor injuries from the Monday morning storm. This morning, they saw damage to several areas and while the town itself is not under an evacuation order, some parts of it did have to be evacuated.

A 24-year-old woman was taken to jail after stabbing another woman in the abdomen after a dispute Friday. Kendra Wanner, 24, of Valley Springs was arrested for aggravated assault. Officers did find a knife in her possession. Officers investigating the incident found that the two women were having a dispute over property.

The second man charged in the Dunham Park shooting in Sioux Falls learned his fate Friday. A judge handed Walter Stewart a 15-year sentence, but indicated she would have given him more time if she could. In a plea deal with prosecutors, Stewart pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the 2024 shooting death of Joshua Allen in Dunham Park.
