RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) – Three South Dakota communities will come together this September to raise awareness about suicide prevention and support those affected by suicide.
The South Dakota Chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention will host its annual Out of the Darkness Community Walks in Aberdeen, Belle Fourche and Sioux Falls.
- Aberdeen: Saturday, Sept. 12, at Odde Ice Center
- Belle Fourche: Saturday, Sept. 19, at Herrmann Park
- Sioux Falls: Saturday, Sept. 19, at the Levitt Band Shell in downtown Sioux Falls
The walks raise money for mental health research, suicide prevention education, advocacy and support for people who have lost loved ones to suicide.
“Suicide touches one in five American families,” said Janet Harvey, chair of the Sioux Falls walk. “We hope that by joining us and providing your support, we will draw attention to this issue and keep other families from experiencing a suicide loss.”…
