SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) – Meteorological Fall has arrived in KELOLAND, and even though it does not feel like it with our temperatures, it does when looking at the amount of daylight we have.
Wednesday marked the last 8 p.m. sunset in Sioux Falls until April 7th, 2027. Rapid City has already experienced this, though, and their sunsets now occur just before 7:30 p.m. This is only the beginning of some big changes ahead for September.
By the end of the month, sunset times across KELOLAND will be around 50 to 55 minutes earlier. We will even have some locations falling below 7 p.m. by then. That is just with our sunsets, but when factoring in the later sunrises, areas like Sioux Falls will lose around a hour and 25 minutes of daylight during September.
Before we know it, we will be talking about the shortest day of the year, so this is just a good reminder to soak in the longer days while we still have them…
