SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO) — We’ve already seen some showers and thunderstorms push through portions of KELOLAND this morning and afternoon.
Additional chances are still in the cards for portions of KELOLAND as we head through the evening and into the night. A trough will pivot through the region and try to spark additional thunderstorms later today and into the night. With a good amount of energy still left in the atmosphere, any storm that does develop has the potential to become strong to severe if it can initiate.
A “Slight Risk” for severe weather covers portions of southeastern KELOLAND…including the Mitchell/Platte/Gregory/Salem areas. A “Marginal Risk” covers most of the East River part of KELOLAND.
Wind and large hail are the main concerns, but there is also an isolated tornado concern with any storm that can get its act together. Stay weather aware as we head into the evening and the first part of the night.
A few showers and storms may linger into early Tuesday to the southeast, but most of the day beyond that is shaping up to be pretty nice. In fact, the midweek outlook through Thursday is warm but mainly quiet as well.
By the weekend, we have two things to watch. First, a chance for scattered showers comes into view. Second, a noticeable cool-down. Highs for the weekend and into early next week may not escape the 70s…which is about where we should be for that time of year…
