‘Something our community deserves.’ Mobile food market revived

More than a year after the Eat Well Mobile Market shut down, a new version of the grocery-on-wheels concept is back on the streets of Sioux Falls.

The Sioux Falls Mobile Market resumed operations on Aug. 31 under Fair Market, a reduced-price grocery store, and Empower Sioux Falls, a Christian nonprofit that unites local organizations to support community outreach and ministries.

The original mobile market pilot, which Sioux Falls Thrive launched in 2023 with a $400,000 grant from the city of Sioux Falls, was designed to serve neighborhoods considered food deserts — areas with limited access to affordable grocery stores…
