Sioux Falls’ forestry team is busy planting trees and fighting off an emerald ash borer infestation, officials said at a press conference Wednesday, Sept. 9.
Leaders spoke about the importance of urban forestry and measures taken to maintain and grow the city’s tree canopy. The city plans on planting 2,800 curbside street trees this year through the CommuniTree program, funded by a grant from the U.S. Forest Service.
“Sioux Falls’ urban forest is a critical asset to our city and provides many benefits for our community,” said Bryan Peterson, an urban forestry specialist. “When there’s a program that can step in and do that for the community, that is true service through forestry.”…
