Check your storm drains ahead of coming thaw

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — After weeks of frigid temperatures, a period of warming is underway for KELOLAND, and these heightened temperatures will likely lead to a few inches of snow melt, which means it may be time for Sioux Falls residents to think about their storm drain.

Don’t know where your drain is or if you have one? Well, you’re in luck. The City of Sioux Falls just happens to have a map .

City Engineer Andy Berg talked about the storm drains Monday and had some optimistic news. “With the temperatures getting into those warmer highs during the day, we’re hoping to get more of that melting, but we’re not getting really warm to the point that we’re gonna see melting 24/7,” he said.

Salt vs. Sand: What’s the difference, which roads get what?

With temperatures still dipping below freezing during the evenings and nights, Berg says that situation is ideal for a bit more of a gradual melt.

If your storm drain is covered however, that meltwater may have nowhere to go.
