Collision of air masses ahead

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — A very active weather pattern is ahead for Keloland and much of the plains.

A classic collision of air masses is expected across our region this weekend. First the arrival of warm and humid weather will surge northward on Sunday across much of eastern KELOLAND. Meanwhile, hot and dry weather will take shape across Kansas into Southern Nebraska where temperatures will surge into the 90s.

And an unseasonably chilly air mass with snow will work in from the northwest into Wyoming into the Black Hills through Monday. Elements of dry air will remain anchored across the drought areas of western Nebraska.

While all the details are lacking, the framework for severe weather is very strong. Take a look at this powerful upper level trough developing in the Pacific Northwest. This will send various waves of energy into the plains and create several rounds of severe weather.

Our best advice is to stay weather aware and have a plan of action when storms approach your location. Please download the KELOLAND Storm Tracker App to track the latest forecasts. You’ll be hearing much more from the Storm Center throughout the weekend…
