Ferris High School seniors win 2nd at the international STEM competition

SPOKANE, Wash. – Two Ferris High School seniors won a second-place category award in Earth and Environmental Science at the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF).

Anders Thogerson and Teddy Osborne were awarded for their project titled “The chemical and structural effects of simulated wildfire smoke on Triticum aestivum, Brassica oleracea var italica, and Oryza sativa: A multimodal microscopy and germination matrix analysis.”

Their study investigated “the effects on plant growth triggered by seed exposure to wildfire smoke.” Their project presentation, visual summary and a video of them presenting can be found at the Regeneron ISEF website…
