NIC Global’s roots go back to the late 1990s, when Steve Simon and Simon Ventures LLC purchased three custom fabricators in the Seattle area. In 2001, the company was incorporated as National Industrial Concepts, then as NIC Global a few years later. Its legal and financial headquarters remain in the Pacific Northwest, but it also has a major presence in Tennessee, with its operating headquarters and a large plant located northeast of Nashville, along with thriving locations in Texas and Ohio. Its newest plant, in Spokane, Wash., opened in 2023.
The family-owned fabricator, No. 11 on the FAB 40, serves a wide variety of customers, with a focus on three core markets: heavy truck, power distribution and infrastructure (which now includes major investments for data center support), and medical devices. The West Coast operation focuses mainly on the energy and medical device segments, including ultrasound machines and various other mechanical assemblies. It’s work that includes a healthy dose of supply chain management, coordinating the delivery of myriad components that are integrated into a final assembly in NIC’s plants in Woodinville, Wash.
“Heavy truck remains the largest piece of the pie, but we’re increasing our presence in power generation too. We support customers who keep the lights on: smart grid technologies and power distribution. We already had a nice growth trajectory in these areas, but obviously, over the past few years, we’ve seen dramatic increases in demand driven by products that support data center expansion.”…
