Spokane arts nonprofit Terrain plans to revitalize vacant downtown building into cultural hub

Back in 2008, friends Ginger Ewing, Luke Baumgarten, Patrick Kendrick, Mariah McKay and Sara Horner sat on the patio of Spokane’s now-defunct Empyrean Coffee House and dreamed up what is now known as Terrain.

The arts organization has been a pioneer in the local scene since its inception. When it was conceived nearly two decades ago, the group called themselves The Wonderground Collective. Their big idea was to throw a one-night-only party showcasing the region’s creativity and call it Terrain.

Back then, Terrain was just an idea. Now, it’s grown into much more than those five friends could have ever imagined…
