Local man and friends hand out roses to locals on Valentine’s Day

SPOKANE, Wash. — Valentine’s Day is filled with love, and one man is making sure no one is left out.

Seth Stewart and his friends have been handing out local singles, elders and widows on Valentine’s Day for the past 15 years.

This year didn’t change. He made a group of ladies’ day on Wednesday.

The tradition is called Rose Rush.

Over 100 women opened their doors to a wonderful Valentine’s Day surprise.

Stewart says he noticed that February 14 could be hard on single women and widows, so he rose to the occasion and started this tradition in 2010.

The first year, they handed out a couple dozen. Now, he and volunteers are handing out over 100-dozen.

They go door to door and even deliver to women at work.

The smiles are exactly why Seth does what he does.

“It lets people know that you’re not forgotten, that you’re important, that you still hold value, despite what anybody else might think,” Stewart said. “You really do. You matter.”

A few weeks before Valentine’s Day, people nominate local singles and widows who they’d like to receive a rose. Volunteers take those names and addresses, plan a route and off they go.
