The Spokane Police Department (SPD) arrested frequent burglary suspect, Stephen P. Hinsen, on February 4, 2024. The arrest was a result of a joint effort between the SPD Stolen Property Enforcement and Recovery Team (SPEAR) and SPD patrol officers.

The arrest followed a series of burglaries in Spokane. Information from victims and neighbors helped investigators understand the suspect’s method of operation. The suspect typically entered homes by kicking open back doors or breaking rear windows.

Jewelry, cash, and electronic items were the main items stolen during these burglaries. Hinsen, 32, was booked into the Spokane County Jail on five counts of residential burglary and two counts of 2nd degree theft.

Hinsen has a history with the criminal justice system, with prior arrests for residential burglary. He was out on bond at the time of his recent arrest. His criminal history includes felony convictions for trafficking stolen property and theft.

The investigation into Hinsen’s activities continues. Detectives are working on additional cases they believe are connected to him. The SPD is dedicated to the safety and security of Spokane residents and will continue to work to solve these cases.
