Spokane, Wash. — A new Spokane Salish School broke ground as tribal leaders and families marked a major step in expanding language education along the Spokane River.
The Spokane Tribe said only two to four people in the nation speak fluent Colville Salish as their first language. The school aims to prepare at least 30 teachers to speak and teach the language fluently.
