Allegations against former Conroe ISD coach sent to sheriff’s office for review after Paxton opinion

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office are reviewing allegations of inappropriate behavior by a former Woodlands High School wrestling coach after Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton said in a September opinion that school district police are not the right agency to handle such investigations, Conroe ISD officials said Tuesday.

The school district had started its own investigation against former coach William Durning on April 27 after several students and their parents reported allegations of inappropriate behavior to school officials. Durning was removed from campus and placed on administrative leave that day.

That investigation did not result in criminal charges against Durning. “After a thorough investigation of the allegations, no chargeable offense was found to have occurred,” district officials said in a Tuesday statement to the Chronicle…
