Cold front will bring thunderstorm chances to Houston. Here’s when it arrives.

It’s Mother’s Day, and if you have plans with Mom, there’s some good news. While a few thunderstorms are possible late in the day, most of Sunday is expected to remain dry. However, hot and humid conditions across Southeast Texas may make it feel uncomfortable at times.

Changes will arrive late Sunday night, as a cold front quickly approaches from the northwest. While this front will not result in a big drop in temperatures, it will provide the energy needed to produce scattered showers and thunderstorms across the region, some of which could become strong to severe. Here’s a breakdown of what you can expect.

Mother’s Day forecast

It’ll be a mild and muggy start to the day, as temperatures will likely hover in the mid-70s between 5 and 9 a.m. If you’re heading to brunch, however, be prepared for temps warming into the 80s by noon, as skies also start to become more sunny.

By the late afternoon, high temperatures in Houston are expected to range from 86 to 89 degrees. High humidity will make conditions feel warmer, with heat index values expected to rise up to 95 degrees. If you’re spending time outdoors, be sure to stay properly hydrated and take frequent breaks in the shade or indoors.
