Hundreds in Cedar, Webster and Wright counties are without power after a line of severe thunderstorms moved through the area early Sunday morning.
Around 11:45 a.m., a wake low developed behind the main line, causing winds to rapidly intensify with gusts estimated between 60 and 65 mph. Those strong straight-line winds brought down power lines and toppled numerous trees across the region.
Emergency management officials in Webster County confirmed downed power lines near E. Jefferson Street and N. Olive Street in Niangua, as well as along S. Creek Road. Additional tree damage has been reported in Marshfield, including near the Highway 103 roundabout. There are also reports of trees down along Highway 38 just past Letchworth Loop.
It’s important to note that another round of thunderstorms is expected to develop late this afternoon and continue through the overnight hours. Some of these storms could become severe, so please stay weather-aware throughout the day…
