Springfield man hailed as hero dies after being struck by debris while helping at I-44 crash

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) -A Springfield man who stopped to help the driver of an overturned tractor-trailer on Interstate 44 near Miami, Oklahoma, has died from his injuries, nearly two weeks after the crash.

Dylan Hoyt and a group of people were traveling home from street racing on July 12 when they came across an overturned semi-truck on the westbound side of I-44. Hoyt and his group stopped to help the truck driver. While they were at the scene, a second semi-truck crashed into the area, striking Hoyt with debris.

Dylan’s mom, Melissa Hartsell said her son had always had a love for cars and was well known in the Springfield racing community. He had been scheduled to interview for a diesel mechanic job the week following the crash…
