Springfield, MO – Zimmer Communications has filed a $1,241,444 deal to buy rock “Q-92.9” KQRA, sports “102.1 The Won” KOSP, classic rock “104.7 The Cave” KKLH and classic country “105.1 The Bull” KOMG from Mid-West Family Broadcasting. Under the agreement, Zimmer will finance the acquisition with a seller-financed promissory note totaling $1,241,444. Zimmer already owns several stations in the market, including country “93.7 The Stage” KZMO, soft AC “98.7 The Dove” KTXR, classic country “Real Country 101.3” KWTO-FM, news/talk KWTO (560), and sports “The Jock” KBFL (1060). The combination would create a nine-station cluster, exceeding the current ownership cap in the Springfield market by three stations, including three FM signals. But Zimmer has filed a waiver request with the FCC to combine operations rather than divest stations.
La Crosse, WI – David Magnum’s Magnum Media has filed a $1.375 million deal to buy country “Cow 97.1” WCOW and the “ESPN La Crosse” simulcast of WFBZ/WKLJ (105.5/1290) from Suzanne Hoffman’s Sparta-Tomah Broadcasting. The deal also includes the Sparta, WI-licensed translator W271CM at 102.1 FM that simulcasts WKLJ. Magnum Media already owns five stations in La Crosse, including country “Kicks 106.3” WQCC, AC “Mix 96.1” WLXR, classic rock WTMB (94.5), classic rock (102.7) and country WBOG (1460). That would give Magnum two more than is allowed in the size of the market (No. 210) where the current limit is up to six commercial radio stations in total, provided that it owns no more than four commercial stations in the same AM or FM service. But it has filed a waiver request seeking to exceed the limit saying it would “financially fortify a highly rated station (WCOW‑FM) that might otherwise face an uncertain future.” Once the sale closes, Sparta-Tomah Broadcasting will exit radio ownership.
