The question for today’s forecast isn’t whether it will be hot, but rather just how hot it will get. An extreme heat warning continues for nearly every county in the Ozarks, with heat index values expected to reach between 100 and 110 degrees.
In Springfield, we’re watching to see if temperatures can reach 100 degrees for the first time in nearly three years.
Temperatures came close yesterday, falling just 1 degree short with a high of 99. We have additional opportunities to reach the century mark Friday, Saturday and Sunday, with little relief expected from this heat wave.
Don’t expect any major improvements over the next couple of days, as heat index values will continue to climb between 100 and 110 degrees.
Relief is expected to arrive Monday as a cold front brings a chance for rain and, more importantly, knocks temperatures back down. It won’t make things chilly, but highs are expected to drop to around 90 degrees Monday before temperatures slowly begin warming again next week…
