SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – On Oct. 11, 1926, the Gillioz Theatre opened its doors for the first time in downtown Springfield, merely months after Route 66 opened. As the building turns a century old, it hopes to bring the past and present together to ring in the future.
“Our founder, Emmy Gillioz, was desperately committed to being on the Mother Road because he saw the opportunity for tourism, which was a novel concept at that point,” said Geoff Steele, the Gillioz’s executive director.
To celebrate this centennial birthday, the theatre is hosting a free birthday party for the community…
