Marshfield students find kilo of cocaine on Florida beach

FLORIDA — Ten students and two teachers from Marshfield High School are spending the week in Florida on the trip of a lifetime. Finding a brick of cocaine on the beach is making the trip even more unforgettable.

“The square grouper, we now know that is what they call it down here,” laughs teacher Kim Fields, “It’s a story we will be talking about forever.”

Fields has planned this Ecology 2 trip to precision. They are swimming with dolphins, studying alligators, and researching sea turtles.

“I really want them to see outside of Missouri. A lot of our kids don’t have that opportunity,” Fields explains.

While picking up trash along the coastline, something caught student Wyatt’s eye, an oddly wrapped rectangle. He said he knew right away what it was, “Pretty much immediately. I saw it, it was down in some grass. I picked it up and said, ‘ya, I think that’s what it is.’”

Tour guides, the Conch Republic Marine Army, agreed and immediately called in the authorities. They confirmed and posed for pictures with the students.
