Weather Blog: Winter storm bringing heavy snowfall to the Ozarks

Local snow reports are starting to come in. There have been quite impressive totals ranging from 3-6″ for places along and south of Highway 60.

*2/12- 7:30 a.m. Update*

Snowfall intensity is starting to pick up in the metro area. Springfield is seeing accumulation on grassy surfaces, however, roadways continue to remain too warm for snowfall to accumulate.

While Springfield remains on the fringe of this event, heavier totals are quickly piling up to the south.

Highways are covered in southern Missouri and northern Arkansas creating dangerous driving conditions. Use caution and allow for extra space while out of the roads.

Accumulation will disappear just as quickly as it appears. Temperatures in the afternoon will climb to the low 40s, melting away most flakes.

A heavier band of snowfall is making its way across the Ozarks. While temperatures at the surface remain near or above freezing, the high snowfall rate is able to accumulate regardless.
