While pints stored in the freezer can tide over a craving, nothing is quite like Pineapple Whip straight out of the machine. Fans will soon be able to get the frozen treat fresh year-round in downtown Springfield.
College Station Theater , which is slated to open in November, will feature Pineapple Whip in its traditional form or as a new frozen drink.
“There will be at least one place in town where, any day of the year, you’re able to get Pineapple Whip fresh out of the machine,” said Paul Tillman, property manager for Tillman Redevelopment LLC.
The idea came when they were brainstorming menu items and ways to keep the theater as local as possible, according to Tillman.
“With everything we’re doing, we have tried to ask the question, ‘Is there a local option?'” Tillman said, including their concessions menu, which includes slushies. “Is there a local slushy option? We kind of came up short; nothing that really screamed Springfield. I was like, ‘What if we just put the Pineapple Whip recipe in a slushy machine?'”
