Springfield Police Department chief says some businesses operating banned gambling machines

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – Despite an ordinance that has banned gambling machines in Springfield since early 2024, police officers say some businesses are operating the devices.

Police Chief Paul Williams said his department continues to regularly check on businesses in an effort to encourage compliance. He said it has gotten better in recent months, and now only about a third of the businesses visited by officers have machines up and running.

But the chief said the devices make business owners a lot of money. That means they are sometimes willing to keep them operating and risk the fine…
